Attribution

Nice Maps recolors and vertically exaggerates elevation data to make artistic maps. Each export includes a compact source line and a metadata text file identifying the loaded sources, location and source tiles. Keep applicable notices when sharing or printing.

Elevation

Mapzen / AWS Terrain Tiles

The terrain service combines several datasets. Tile metadata is used to narrow notices when every source identifier is recognized. Otherwise the export retains all composite notices below. Source tiles may include data outside the visible map silhouette.

Local elevation packs use the product, version, source link and notices stored in the pack, rather than the Mapzen composite notices above. Imported metadata is supplied by the pack author. Keep its full notices with the exported artwork.

GEBCO · eight ocean relief examples

Hawaii, Mariana Trench, Iceland ridge and Japan use the documented Zenodo conversion below. Azores, South Sandwich, Red Sea and Kermadec use official GEBCO 2024 sub-ice GeoTIFFs from the CEDA archive. Exact source files accompany each pack.

US LiDAR · eight prepared 1 m-source examples

Mount St. Helens, Zion Canyon, Great Sand Dunes, Crater Lake, Yosemite Valley, Badlands and Horseshoe Bend use 3DEP projects. Mount Rainier uses Robinson, Sisson and Swinney (2010), USGS Data Series 549, doi:10.3133/ds549, from the 2007–2008 1 m LiDAR survey. Crater Lake shows the water surface, not lake-floor bathymetry; Rainier's glacier surfaces reflect the survey period.

USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP), public-domain 1-meter LiDAR-derived bare-earth DEMs. Projects WA_FEMAHQ_2018_D18, UT_ZionNP_QL2_2016 and CO_SanLuisJuanMiguel_2020_D20. NAD83 / UTM source grids; heights in NAVD88 metres. Cropped, reprojected, bilinearly resampled to 1,024 × 1,024 geographic grids, recolored and vertically exaggerated. Satellite imagery & Earth composites

Imagery is cropped, reprojected and resampled for display, not converted into elevation. Optional artistic appearance changes are not calibrated scientific processing. Exact scene identifiers, dates, channels, processing and source links accompany each pack and exported metadata text.

Sentinel-2 · Nile Desert, Sonoran Coast and Colorado Plateau

NASA Earth · Sahara & Sahel, Himalaya & Tibet and Patagonia

NASA Earth Observatory, Blue Marble Next Generation, Reto Stöckli. Regional crops of the April 2004 MODIS monthly composite, using the published 21600 × 10800 world image. Natural Earth II · Maps & globes

In Elevation Palette mode, the Natural Earth studio instead renders the companion NOAA ETOPO 2022 height grid. NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (2022), ETOPO 2022 15 Arc-Second Global Relief Model, doi:10.25921/fd45-gt74. This studio uses the published v1 60 arc-second ice-surface grid: WGS84 geographic coordinates and EGM2008 heights in metres, including ocean bathymetry and the poles. Samples are rounded to integer metres; lower-resolution levels are averaged. Colors and hillshade are calculated from those heights, not from the Natural Earth image. Natural Earth II by Tom Patterson / Natural Earth, public domain. NE2_HR_LC_SR_W_DR v3.2.0, 21,600 × 10,800 pixels: idealized land cover, shaded relief, water and drainages. Reprojected and JPEG tiled; Dark appearance modifies colors. The globe is a spherical reprojection of baked relief, not a 3D elevation model or satellite photograph. Sharing & printing

The attribution line refers here for detailed notices; the export package also includes them offline. A separate attribution file is not permission to discard attribution when publishing an image or selling a print. Requirements depend on the source licence and distribution context. See OSM’s attribution guidance.

The compact layout is a presentation option, not a certification that linked or accompanying attribution satisfies every regional elevation licence in every context. Review the applicable terms before commercial distribution.
